How to reach the JR Kyoto Station from the Kansai International Airport

The fastest and simplest way to reach the JR Kyoto station from the Kansai International Airport is taking the Limited Express train Haruka.

To reach the train station lead for the second floor of the airport building then cross one of the three bridges connecting the Passenger Terminal Building to the Railway Station Building.

The railway station serves two lines: the Nankai line and the JR West line. Go to the JR ticket counter and request a ticket to Kyoto on the Haruka Limited Express train (simply say "Kyoto, Haruka"). Alternatively the ticket can be bought at one of the ticket vending machines.

The ticket cost 3490 yen, there is a departure every 30 minutes and it takes about 75 minutes from the airport to the Kyoto station.

How to reach the JR Kyoto Station from the Narita Airport

Again, the fastest way to the JR Kyoto station is by train.

The Narita Airport Railway Station is located on the first basement floor of both the airport terminals. The station also serves lines: the Keisei line and the JR East line. Go to the JR ticket counter and ask for a ticket to Kyoto by the Narita Express and the Nozomi Shinkansen, both with reservation. You will receive three tickets: a basic fair ticket to Kyoto, a limited express charge ticket for the Narita Express, and a limited express charge ticket for the Nozomi Shinkansen. The total cost is about 16000 yen.

Each hour there are about two departures of the Narita Express train from tha Narita Railway Station, and it takes about 60 minutes to get to the JR Tokyo station. At the JR Tokyo station get off the Narita Express train (Tokyo is not the final destination of the train), move to the Shinkansen Platform and take the Nozomi train specified on the ticket. In about 2 hours and 20 minutes you will reach the JR Kyoto station.

How to reach the Kyoto Kokusai(International) Hotel and the ANA Hotel Kyoto from the JR Kyoto Station

The two hotels are close together and located in the proximity of the Kyoto Castle. They can be reached in three ways:

Taxi (about 15 minutes)
Just take one of the many taxis waiting for a passenger in front of the railway station and say the name of the hotel to the driver. The ride will cost about 1300-1500 yen.
Subway (about 20 minutes)
Both hotels are within 2 minutes walking from the "Nijo-jo mae" station of the Tozai line. This station can be easily reached. In the JR Kyoto station follow the signs for the subway. Once in the subway station buy a 230 yen ticket at a vending machine and take a train to Kokusaikaikan. Get off at the Karasuma Oike station, move to the Tozai line platform to catch a train to Nijo and get off at the "Nijo-jo mae" station (the first stop of the train).
Shuttle bus (about 15 minutes)
The ANA Hotel Kyoto has a convenient shuttle bus service for its customer. The service is available from 8:00 AM to 7:45 PM, with a bus every 15 minutes, and it's free. You can get the bus in front of McDonald's located near Hachijo Exit of Kyoto Station.
